“The Junto March Madness”

Hey everyone,

I am not sure how many of you read The Junto blog, but they have had this really interesting series going on throughout the past month.  They have taken 64 of the “best” early America book and have placed them in brackets.  Then they have “March Madness”-style have set them in competing matchups.  Well today is the championship day, and I thought you might just want to see what this Reckless Historian is thinking.

Junto March Madness Championship

I am picking Morgan’s AMERICAN SLAVERY, AMERICAN FREEDOM as the champion of it all.  Morgan may honestly be my favorite history book.  This book truly changed my entire thinking on the emergence of slavery and the rise of colonial Virginia.  That being said I have also heard good things about Cronon’s Changes In The Land: Indians, Colonists, and the Ecology of New England; however, because 1) I have not read it and 2) I really loved Morgan’s book, I am casting my ballot for Edmund Morgan.  Feel free to use the link above to head over to the website and vote, and check out some of their incredible articles!
